Agile Project Management – Basic Principles You Should Observe

Agile project management refers to the approach of making classic, planning-driven project management more dynamic and flexible. This can, for example, be due to special project challenges. Particularly in Six Sigma or IT projects, the concrete scope and thus the scope of a project only develops over time. The project goal can constantly change and/or on the basis of new developments or information about the duration of the project is always further differentiated and adapted/modified.

But of course the project success stands and falls also with the conversion of agile management methods with the correct application of different tools and techniques. The use of agile methods should be based on the principles of agile project management:

  • Customer satisfaction through early and continuous delivery of deliverables or partial deliverables.
  • The most important measure of progress is the completion of the deliverables and thus the achievement of the project goal. This involves the continuous completion of work packages.
  • Almost daily cooperation between technical experts and team members during the project – regular exchange within the team can be guaranteed via team boards.
  • Providing the environment and support needed by motivated individuals to perform their tasks.
  • Transfer information face to face if possible.
  • Self-organisation of the teams during planning and implementation.
  • Self-reflection of the teams on their own behaviour in order to adapt in order to increase efficiency.
  • Agile processes use changes – even in the later course of the project.
